The
goal was flood protection and water quality benefits
for Cherry Creek State Park and Reservoir through
a sediment basin, wetlands and water quality capture
volume. Muller's design provides for sediment
and debris trapping and water quality enhancement
outside the Park, so impacts from urban pollutants
are reduced and maintenance operations can take
place without disturbing the Park.
A
triple box culvert allows 100-year flows under
Peoria Street and accommodates a multi-use trail
crossing. A structure on Cottonwood Creek diverts
the flows and allows the water to slow down enough
to drop the sediment and debris into the pond;
a meandering wetland channel further cleanses
the water before it is discharged.
