US 36 Bridge Over Left Hand Creek – Colorado Department of Transportation (Region 4)

This bridge replacement project consisted of the replacement of an existing undersized concrete box culvert carrying US 36 over Left Hand Creek, a tributary of the St. Vrain River. The project is located approximately 4-1/2 miles north of the City of Boulder, in Boulder County. The original culvert was constructed in 1955. The culvert sustained extensive damage during the 2013 flood and needed to be replaced.

The replacement bridge is a 155-foot, single span, 67'-0" out-to-out deck on BT-84 prestressed, precast girders. Muller designed the bridge and associated channel stabilization, greatly increasing the hydraulic capacity of the crossing.

The project also included repairs to an existing bridge just north of the Town of Lyons, including replacement of a wingwall damaged by the 2013 floods.

The project was completed in 2019.
