Westminster Station Park is a 40-acre parcel located along Little Dry Creek between Lowell Boulevard and Federal Boulevard. The project is a combined park and regional detention storage facility and supports the Westminster rail station located on the adjacent RTD B Rail Line which opened in July 2016. The project is a multi-phase overhaul of a neglected river corridor and is an example of Muller’s ability to lead a design which successfully integrates micro-level detailing on a large-scale project.
Major project components include nearly 4,100 feet of Little Dry Creek stream stabilization and re-alignment with loose rock-grade control structures and riffle/pool complexes, approximately 3,400 feet of regional concrete trail, 6,400 feet of secondary and local concrete trail, and 4,100 square yards of concrete plaza flatwork. Roadway improvements at the site include 3,200 feet of urban street along with both on-street parking and three separate off-street parking lots. Nine low water creek crossings and three large span bridges, including one which has a single span of 156 feet, provide park and neighborhood connectivity across the creek. Three utility tunneling designs were prepared to cross Federal Boulevard, the largest being a 129-inch tunnel boring and jacking approach. Construction began in July 2013 and was completed in October 2017. Design was concurrent with a CM/GC construction approach and all project milestones were met.
