1St AVENUE AT EMERY STREET INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS AND RAILROAD CROSSING

Longmont, Colorado

A book cover featuring a green line, highlighting its unique projects.

This project upgraded the intersection of 1st Avenue and Emery Street to provide improved access to a new Longmont Downtown development along Emery Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue. The project includes a crossing of two tracks owned by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF). The new traffic signal at 1st Avenue and Emery Street requires railroad pre-emption for signal operations while trains are passing through the Emery Street crossing.

Multimodal improvements include new sidewalks and bike facilities that are integrated into the railroad crossing for safe railroad protection. Special curb ramps and signing direct bicycles to the wide sidewalks to cross the railroad with proper protection from the gate system.
