Denver South Platte River Corridor Needs Assessment
Denver, Colorado
Like other waterways globally, the South Platte River corridor through Denver, Colorado is being pushed beyond its capabilities due to pressures from urbanization. In 2020, Stream Landscape Architecture + Planning (Stream) and Muller were hired to prepare the South Platte River Corridor Needs Assessment, a comprehensive assessment of existing conditions along the 12.5 mile reach with a focus on establishing higher overall corridor function and to identify gaps between existing and desired conditions. Rather than considering the river’s physical and natural qualities last in the prioritization of urban needs, the three key objectives of River Health, Human Experience, and Connected Mobility were evaluated and several key priority projects emerged as candidates for the design and implementation site improvements.
