Kentucky Avenue and Irving Street Park and Intersection Improvements

Denver, Colorado

A book cover featuring a green line, highlighting its unique projects.
Muller performed the civil engineering of roadway and streetscape improvements at five intersections along W. Kentucky Avenue and the design of a roughly one-third-acre pocket park at the intersection of West Kentucky Avenue and South Irving Street. Roadway improvements at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Irving Street included designated bike lanes, curb bumpouts, and tighter radius returns to provide improved and safer pedestrian crossings and traffic calming. The new curb and gutter bumpouts frame on-street parking and provide increased landscaping and green infrastructure for water quality treatment. Three flow-through treatment facilities were seamlessly blended with sidewalk, bus stop, park frontage, and landscaping improvements. Design features which include curb openings, forebays, and trench grating were installed and align with design guidance contained in Denver’s Green Continuum Streets Guidelines which Muller assisted the City to develop.
