CDOT RESILIENCY INTEGRATION

Colorado (Statewide)

A book cover featuring a green line, highlighting its unique projects.

CDOT developed a Policy Directive, “Building Resilience into Transportation Infrastructure and Operations” which became effective November 15, 2018.  This Policy implements the principles of resiliency into Colorado’s transportation system practices.  To help put this Policy into action, CDOT decided to embark on a project, “Integrating Resiliency at CDOT”, to demonstrate how information about risk and resiliency can be incorporated into day-to-day CDOT activities.

Muller was selected to develop five case studies, in order to provide proofs of concepts for how the department can integrate resiliency into core DOT functions (long range planning, asset management, operations and maintenance, scoping and engineering, environmental planning documents).

Each case study will be designed to drive the ideas of resilience into day-to-day operations and find ways to use existing data. These case studies will result in the development of factsheets that communicate results, along with business process documentation (maps, checklists, etc.) to institutionalize the proposed outcomes. Throughout the case study development, the project team will review the department’s funding and criteria manuals to ensure the outcome of the project includes recommendations for incorporating resilience into these areas as well.
