Spader Way Pedestrian Crossing
Broomfield, Colorado
The Muller team designed an enhanced pedestrian crossing on Spader Way south of 3rd Avenue in Broomfield. This work included design of a pedestrian median refuge island and rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) to improve the functionality of an existing pedestrian crossing on Spader Way between the new Community Recreation Center on the east side of Spader Way and the City Municipal Complex on the west side. This project was on a fast-track design schedule to target late summer construction.
The design plans included the proposed median, median pass-through, solar RRFB devices, signing, and pavement markings. The existing curb ramps on either side of Spader Way were maintained in place, but truncated domes were added to bring them into ADA compliance.
