US 50 Passing Lanes

Gunnison, Colorado

A book cover featuring a green line, highlighting its unique projects.

This project included the design of passing lanes on US 50 for 1.4 miles between Sapinero and Structure No. K-07-B over the Blue Mesa Reservoir. The work entailed widening of US 50 to provide passing lanes in both directions to improve safety and operational characteristics of the highway.

In addition to widening for passing lanes, Muller’s scope included guardrail upgrades; extending existing drainage structures to accommodate roadway widening; modifying US 50 and Lake City Cutoff intersection as required for roadway widening; and completing traffic analysis to determine lengths of passing lanes and required auxiliary lanes at the intersection of US 50 and Lake City Cutoff.
